Joyce O. Murphy RN, MSN
Joyce is a nurse educator and writer. Her nursing career spans four decades, including frontline and management roles in healthcare, social services, and higher education. She served people in home health and long-term care, where she was a mid-90s DON who guided development of a special care unit for people with Alzheimer’s disease. Joyce has also worked in community programs serving young children and people with disabilities. She contributed a family-focused chapter to a 2004 nursing publication that received an American Journal of Nursing award. A holistic nursing course she wrote and taught for several years received national recognition for its adherence with distance learning standards. These, among other community nursing experiences, contribute to Joyce’s broad view of caring for families and their loved ones. She enjoys walks in her family’s woodland, kayaking, snowshoeing, reading, sewing, and watching wildlife.
How we create content
Open Caregiving creates two types of content: Stories and Informational Resources.
- Our stories are written by real caregivers who want to give back and share their experiences with others. We also collect stories written by medical professionals who want to share their advice and insights with caregivers. Once a story is submitted to us, we lightly edit it to enhance readability while preserving the author’s voice.
- Our glossary section is highly researched, verified and edited to make sure we are delivering the most concise and insightful information to our community. We actively fact check our content by having topic experts review all of our resources to ensure everything is accurate and up to date. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or corrections to our resources or want to help verify information.
While we strive to deliver meaningful content to our community, the material on OpenCaregiving.com is provided for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for legal, financial, professional, or medical advice or diagnosis or treatment. You should always consult a trusted professional before making any legal, financial or medical decisions based on information you have read on OpenCaregiving.com.
How We Make Money
The caregiver and patient always come first. Open Caregiving does not run ads, sell your browsing data or make affiliate revenue. Our products are always free for caregivers and are built to achieve accessibility, transparency and better care outcomes.
Open Caregiving is a data partner with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Through this partnership, Open Caregiving receives anonymized beneficiary and hospice provider data. Our Data Usage Agreement with CMS is based around us helping the hospice industry use data to achieve better beneficiary outcomes. We do this by helping providers utilize benchmarks and helping insurance providers partner with those who prioritize quality of care. We do not sell any personally identifiable information.
